Dorothy C. Spanbauer – Baird, age 99, of Loveland, passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at North Shore Health and Rehabilitation Center in Loveland.
Dorothy was born on May 23, 1924 in Salisbury, Missouri, the daughter of William and Hattie (Jackson) Collet. Dorothy was raised in Missouri until meeting her husband, Frank Spanbauer, marrying him, and moving to Rockford, Illinois. They had two children, Marvin Spanbauer and Lori Spanbauer.
Dorothy served as a homemaker most of her life, along with helping her husband run his greenhouse business for many years. She and Frank lived in Rockford and Winnebago, Illinois, and owned and operated Hi-Way Greenhouse in Rockford. After moving to Loveland in 1994, Dorothy stayed active and busy working at K-Mart and Lakeview Commons well into her 70’s.
After Frank died in 1980, Dorothy lived as a widow until she met David Baird and married him in 1999 in Loveland.
Dorothy is survived by her children Marvin Spanbauer and Lori Spanbauer, her son-in-law, Mike Vipond, and many friends and loving caretakers. She was a loving mother, wife, aunt and friend. Dorothy’s sense of humor and loving kindness will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Hattie Collet, eight brothers and sisters, and husbands Frank Spanbauer and David Baird.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Calvary Cemetery in Winnebago, Illinois.
