February 6, 1953 - August 26, 2022
Douglas Adam Bernhardt passed away August 26th, 2022 after a long battle with cancer.
Douglas, known as Doug, was born February 6th,1953 in Loveland, Colorado to Adam and Beverly (Lane) Bernhardt. He graduated from Loveland High School in 1971. He went to college for two years in Ft. Collins at Colorado State University, then changed majors and went to the University of Northern Colorado where he graduated with a degree in Recreation.
Doug married Kim Tarbox on March 18th, 1978. They had three sons: Jeff, Nick, and Corey. Doug worked construction for a few years before he and Kim bought and ran Awards Unlimited trophy shop in 1985.
Doug and Kim later divorced but remained good friends and devoted parents. Doug reconnected with his old college friend, Barbara Nelson in 2003. They loved going on cruises with his three sons and her two daughters, Kristin and Megan. Sadly, Barb passed in 2014.
Over the years, Doug gave back to the community by coaching Loveland youth baseball, basketball and football for many years. In his younger days, he loved playing softball and golf. He also enjoyed playing cards, especially Bridge and Cribbage. He even won a few fantasy football championships, which he reminded his family of often.
Finally, deciding to retire, Doug sold his business in 2020. His ultimate dream was to live full time on a cruise ship. Unfortunately, because of health issues, he remained in Loveland, but enjoyed getting together with his family whenever possible.
One of his big delights was going to see his grandchildren, Jada and Eli in school programs and concerts. Cooper, his third grandchild, was born in June 2022, in time for Doug to meet and enjoy him for a short while.
Douglas is survived by his three sons: Jeffrey Lane Bernhardt, Johnstown, Nicholas Adam Bernhardt, Loveland and Corey Byron Bernhardt and his wife Corinne (Stevenson) of Ft. Collins; three grandchildren: Jada and Eli Bernhardt, and Cooper Bernhardt; his sister, Connie Bernhardt; many cousins; his ex-wife, Kim Bernhardt; and Barb’s daughters, Kristin Zaideman and Megan Nelson. He was preceded in death by his parents Adam and Beverly Bernhardt, and good friend, Barbara Nelson.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sept 9th at 3Pm at the Back Yard Tap, 323 North Railroad Ave. Loveland, Colorado. The family welcomes all to come join them in Celebrating Doug.
