Elaine was born in Cook, NE to Harold and Amanda Stutheit (Johns) The family lived and farmed in Cook until Elaine’s adolescent years, when they moved to Loveland, Co to better support her Father’s health issues. They purchased a motel in Loveland, living and operating that motel until her death in 1956. Elaine graduated from Loveland High School in 1949 where she established lifelong friendships that lasted until her passing.

While in High School, she met Ken Howe, whom she dated until 1951 when they were married at Zion American Lutheran Church in Loveland. They operated the family farm and Dairy in Loveland and had three Children. Diane, Debi, and Jim. In 1963, the family moved to Fort Morgan, CO. Ken began a career with State of CO. Division of employment, while Elaine raised the children, and worked as a bookkeeper for the local music store.

In 1968, the family moved to Longmont, CO where they would spend the rest of their Lives. They first lived in town, but eventually moved to an acreage in northeast Longmont so they could get back to their farming roots. Elaine worked for several local businesses throughout those early years in Longmont, including Great Western Sugar as a horticulturist, and as a bookkeeper for Red Dale, Craft Stoves and Boulder Municipal Airport. She also developed many longstanding friendships during those years, and would volunteer her services to several organizations. She enjoyed her bowling, playing cards, playing the piano, camping, rock hunting, rooting for the Broncos and the Rockies, watching the World Series, and making friends wherever she could. Having strong family beliefs, she also helped to support her kids and grandkids in their lives.

Elaine enjoyed Living the farm life. She enjoyed her flowers, her greenhouse, and the freedom that came with being in the country. She helped Ken with his passion, refurbishing Antique tractors and that lead her, along with Ken, to her years long involvement with The Yesteryear Farm Show. She enjoyed her refurbished CleTrac tractor, driving it around the farm grounds and parading it around the Yesteryear farm show. But most of all, she enjoyed establishing friendships with the people she met, and the ongoing relationships she had with her neighbors and the Yesteryear group. Friends forever.

Elaine was about family and friends. She loved family get togethers, holidays, family reunions and travelling to AZ and NE to see family. She loved having her friends come over to the house to play cards, to plan the next show, or to have water meetings with the neighbors. She loved that her kids and all the generations of grand kids were close by to visit. She loved turning visits into dinner and she was always happy to make a meal when people would come to the house.

Elaine and Ken were together for 69 years, until Ken’s Death in 2020. Elaine decided at that time that she would not be able to maintain the farm she and Ken had loved so dearly and she decided that she needed to re-locate. She sold the farm and moved back to town in an assisted living facility, where she stayed for 18 months, before she had to re-locate again due to her failing health. During all that time, she was meeting new people and making new friends. Doing what she loved.
