1936 - 2022

Ellen Jane Parton was born October 10, 1936 in Lamar, Colorado.

She was the first child born to Fred and Jessie Velut. Jane entered into the eternal rest on October 18, 2022 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Jane spent her early years in Lamar and La Junta, Colorado. Junior High and High School years were spent in the family home, along with younger brother Joe, in Wray, CO where she graduated from high school in 1954. A memorable teen age job of hers was working for the local Dairy King. In the fall of 1954, Jane began her college career in Lamoni, IA where she attended Graceland College.

After two years she transferred to the Colorado State College of Education in Greeley (UNC) where she graduated with her lifetime teaching certificate in Home Economics. Her first teaching job landed her in Limon, Colorado. As a new teacher, Jane was assigned to be a junior class sponsor, along with Wayne Parton. Together they helped build a float, decorated for the prom, and ran countless concession stands. It was a perfect match as the two were married in the summer of 1960 and lasted until Wayne’s passing in 2014. She was a devoted caregiver and loving wife. After completing one year of teaching in Jefferson County Schools, the pair decided to return to Limon and make it their forever home.

To this union two children were born: Kevin Shawn and Kendell Sue. After the birth of her children, she took some time off teaching to be her kids, and later returned to Limon Schools. During her long teaching career, she taught numerous students how to sew and cook, even sewing basketball warm-up uniforms that were used for many years. One of her more challenging classes was “Bachelor Survival.” In her retirement, she continued to work part time as a substitute teacher which she enjoyed greatly.

Embarking on a few trips, reading, spending time with grandkids, attending Ageless Angel meetings, and senior center lunches were all activities that she treasured during her later years. Being honored as an Honorary L. Club member in 2001 was an award she was especially proud of. She was a lifelong member of Community of Christ Church in which she held numerous roles. Jane was proceeded in death by her parents, husband, and one grandson. She is survived by her children: Shawn and Kendell (Patrick), four grandchildren: Kathleen, Luke, Toby, and Cale, one grandson in law Evan, one great-grandson Maxon, brother Joe (Rita) and sister in law Lillian.
