May 8, 1930 - December 2, 2020

Ellen “Ruth” Schafer of Westminster, CO passed away on 12/02/2020, at home, in the care of her children.

Ruth was born on May 8, 1930 in Wray, Colorado to Charles and Frances Larimer. In their early years, her family lived in different towns across eastern Colorado and Nebraska. Ruth describes her childhood as a great one, though her father died tragically when she was only 15 years old. This left her mother to care for 5 children, on her own, and the family decided to move to Denver (as their permanent home).

In 1952 Ruth married Joe Schafer, the love of her life. They were married 53 wonderful years, when he passed away in 2005. Together they had 4 beloved children. She has mentioned that though it was a hectic time, when the children were young, those were also the best days of her life. She managed to keep the household running and worked for Boettcher & Company (as a Payroll Manager) for 31 years, until she retired in 1991.

Though she will be sorely missed; the world was a better place to have such an amazing daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother as part of it. Our love will go on and we will find peace through the incredible memories of such an amazing, strong, and beautiful lady.

Ruth is survived by her siblings; Frances “Mae” Bryant, Tom (Barb) Larimer, and Dorothy (Bob) Jeffcoat. Ruth is also survived by her children; Mark Schafer, Michael (Cathy) Schafer, Monty Schafer, Melody (Ernie) Travis, grandchildren; Heather Travis, Nicole (Joshua) Daniels, Nathan (Janine) Schafer, Michael Schafer, Noelle (John) Cho, Anna (Shane) Coffee and 7 great-grandchildren.

She was proceeded in death by her father Charles, mother Frances, husband Joe, sister Mary Anne and daughter-in-law Doreen.
