June 19, 1936 — January 24, 2024
Evelyn Eslinger was born to Harold and Della Matthies on June 19, 1936, in Burlington, Colorado,. She grew up in Burlington and went to school until the eighth grade when her parents decided to keep her home. Evelyn met Wesley Eslinger in school, fell in love, and married Wesley in a beautiful wedding on July 1. 1956.
They welcomed Rodney, Laura, and Tammie into the family. Evelyn loved being a homemaker. She cared for her husband and children, ensuring they were well-fed and clean and all of Wesley’s needs were met. You might find her with a cat in her lap in her little bit of spare time. She took a flower arrangement class to fuel her inspirations with flowers. She has been known to hide her seeds in drawers so that Wesley wouldn’t find them. He felt flowers were weeds and took too much time to care for them. Evelyn loved flowers and gardening and had them outside her home to enjoy. After Wesley passed, she lived independently until her health decreased, and she moved in with her daughter Laura, her constant companion. She lived with her for the last few years, enjoying being a grandmother and loved.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents, husband Wesley Eslinger, daughter Tammie Zemp, sisters Ruth and Pauline, and a grandson. She is survived by her sisters Bonnie, Peggy, and Linda. Son, Rodney Eslinger of Ft. Collins, Colorado, and his children Christine, Anna, and Mathew. Daughter Laura Eslinger of Meriden, Kansas, and her children ReAnne Kirkpatrick of Topeka, Ryan Lamb of Topeka, and Christopher Kirkpatrick of Topeka. Grandsons from Tammie are Bob Nelson of Aurora, CO, Mike Nelson of Aurora, CO, Tim Nelson of Aurora, CO, Daniel Zemp of North Carolina, and fourteen great-grandchildren and many loving nieces, nephews and adoring friends who will miss her dearly.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Burlington VFW Post #6491.
