FEBRUARY 12, 1931 – NOVEMBER 4, 2022

Harold Milton Smith, 91, of Loveland, Colorado, passed away in the afternoon of November 4, 2022.

Harold was born in Decater County, Iowa, on February 12, 1931, to Solomon and Bertha (Williams) Smith. Harold began working on his family’s farm at the age of 16 after his father suffered from a major stroke. Through his work around the farm, Harold became a self-taught mechanic.

On December 24, 1949, Harold married Thelma May (Evans) Smith in Decater County, Iowa. Together, they moved to Colorado in 1956. There, Harold worked as a miner and heavy equipment operator and he helped build the Grant Dam. Harold eventually started his own business in 1971 doing excavations of housing developments. In addition to his business, he also ran Cedar Valley Gravel where all of his children worked at one time or another.

Harold and Thelma spent many years traveling in their motorhome. He especially enjoyed spending his free time fishing and fixing small engines.

Harold is survived by his wife Thelma (Evans) Smith, his children Douglas Smith, Michael Smith, and Michelle Mullen. Harold is also survived by 12 grandkids, 16 great-grandkids, 6 great-great-grandkids, lots of uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends too many to name. In addition, Harold had several beloved dogs over the years.

A service will be held for Harold on Monday, November 21, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Resthaven Funeral Home and Memory Gardens in Fort Collins, Colorado, followed by a graveside service and a reception.

Serving as pallbearers are Michael Hillenberg, Ethan Mullen, Ian Simkins, Deasean Schreiber, Doug Smith and Chris Schreiber.
