July 03, 1925 - November 16, 2020

Iva Marian Gates Langer, age 95, left this life on November 16, 2020, in Loveland, Colorado.  Her passing was a result of complications from her short battle with brain cancer.

Iva was born in Dodge, Nebraska, on July 3, 1925, to James and Ida Hensel and grew up on the family farm.  The family eventually moved to Colorado, first to Boulder, then to Loveland.  Iva graduated from Loveland High School in 1943.

Shortly after graduation, she married Loyd L. Gates, and after he shipped out to World War II, she went to work at Gates Rubber Company in Denver to help with the war effort.

Following the war, they built a house on top of a basement they had purchased in Loveland.  She became a homemaker while Loyd weekly commuted to Golden, Colorado, to work at Camp George West for a number of years.  During that time, they had three children—Jerry, Kathy, and DeAnn.  In addition to raising the three children, she was also the main disciplinarian, even after Loyd later began working for the Loveland Post Office.  Together, they raised the family, took vacations, and stressed school and achievement. In the mid-60’s, Iva went to work in the kitchen at Garfield Elementary School for several years.

The pride for Loyd and Iva was the house they built at Glacier View Meadows west of Fort Collins.  They found peace and enjoyment there until Loyd passed away in late 1994.

On September 21, 1998, Iva married James (Jim) Langer; he soon retired in 1999, and they then traveled occasionally and split their time between Loveland and the place at Glacier View.  Jim passed away in 2015, and Iva continued to treasure her time there until her death, driving from Loveland every two weeks or so.  She also crocheted numerous pet blankets for the Fort Morgan Humane Society’s rescue shelter to accompany adopted pets to their new homes.

Iva is survived by her brother James (Helen) Hensel of Berthoud; son Jerry (Michelle) Gates of Anchorage, Alaska; daughter Kathy Pranke of Fort Morgan; daughter DeAnn (Jay) Gardner of Loveland; grandchildren Roger (Jo) Pranke, Douglas Gates, and Vance Stenson; great-grandchildren Aizlyn and Zyler Pranke.  Iva was preceded in death by her parents James and Ida, husbands Loyd Gates and Jim Langer, and sister Jean Bailey.

The funeral service for Iva Langer will be held at the Kibbey-Fishburn Funeral Home in Loveland on Friday, November 20, 2020.  Viewing will be from 8:30-9:30 a.m., with the service starting at 9:30 a.m.  Interment will be at the Loveland Burial Park on North Cleveland Avenue following the service.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Iva Langer’s name to Pathways Hospice Care of Loveland or to the Fort Morgan Humane Society, in care of Kibbey-Fishburn Funeral Home in Loveland.
