Janet Eileen Clegg McQuay was born August 4, 1948 to Neal and Dorothy Bush Clegg. She left this life on December 10, 2020.
Janet attended Haigler Public School from kindergarten through high school, graduating in 1967. As a youngster, Janet’s involvement in cooking and sewing projects through 40H, prompted her to go on to major in Home Economics and enter the teaching field.
She attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and graduated in June of 1971 with a Bachelor of Science Degree from the Department of Home Economics with an endorsement in Vocational Education.
After teaching Home Economics in central Nebraska for a year, she married John “Flip” McQuay on September 2, 1972. They moved to Florida where Flip continued his education while Janet worked for a dentist to help with the expenses. After Flip’s graduation, they moved back to Haigler and the Clegg farm.
After every move as they followed Flip’s job opportunities, Janet always found employment in the banking industry.
A daughter, Katrina Lyn, was adopted in 1981.
In 1992, while living in Westminster, Colorado, Janet was diagnosed with leukemia. After that, life was not easy for her, but she was almost always upbeat and had smile on her face. Even on the worst of days, she would greet the doctors and nurses with a laugh, a positive remark and did not complain about the pain she was feeling.
While at the Hillcrest Care Center in Wray, Colorado, Janet was the Resident Council President and led the meetings with pride. She had a love of the outdoors and gardening was her sanctuary. She carried that love with her even to the planter boxes at the Care Center. Janet had a zest for living and even to the final end was a true warrior.
She leaves to mourn her daughter, Katrina Rushing (Allen), her mother, Dorothy Clegg, and her brother, Steve Clegg (Lonna) and grandsons, Nathaniel, Joseph, Jonathan and Brody. Also a host of cousins and other family and friends.
A Visitation/Viewing will be held on Monday, December 14, 2020 from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the Schmidt-Jones Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, December 15, 2020, 10:00 a.m. at the Schmidt-Jones Funeral Home in Wray, Colorado. Memorials may be made to Hillcrest Care Center, 360 Canyon Ridge Drive, Wray, Colorado 80758. Schmidt-Jones Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
