Janice Dorothy Herzog was born on December 7, 1937 in Jamestown, North Dakota. Jan entered into peace May 27, 2021 in Lafayette, Colorado. She was 83 years young. Jan was born to Fridirich and Margaret Herzog. She lived as a toddler in Spiritwood, North Dakota, moving to Minnesota when she was 2. She grew up in Miltona, Minnesota and lived there until she was 19. Jans dad, Fred was a Volga-Deutch born in Russia and she enjoyed sharing her many memories of her ancestors. Her mother taught country school and inspired Jan’s passionate pursuit for a lifelong career in teaching.
Jan grew up with three cherished older brothers, Mickey, Scott and Bill Herzog, and one beloved younger sister Anne. Jan was preceded in death by her brother Scott and her sister Anne.
Jan married Rocky Haight September 7, 1957 in Minnesota while they were both studying for their teaching degrees at St. Cloud State Teachers’ College. They moved to Colorado after graduation in the summer of 1959. Rocky and Jan lived and flourished in Colorado, raising 2 children, Rebecca and Andy, in the Northglenn, Lafayette and Broomfield areas.
Rocky and Jan enjoyed a well traveled, joyous retirement together. They traveled to Alaska, Iceland, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Jan was sadly preceded in death by her beloved Rocky in 2008.
Perhaps one of Jan’s greatest joys in life were her grandchildren and one great granddaughter. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow into young adults and begin lives of their own. She relished a lively conversation with her grandchildren and inspired solid expectations in their lives. One of Jan’s sources of joys and strength was her church, Shepherds Community
Church. Pastors Zach and Kyle guided Jan in her unwavering faith and her church family gave her many hours of fellowship and enjoyment. She loved them dearly.
Jan is cherished by her surviving family ; Brothers Mickey and Bill Herzog, Children Rebecca Halvorsen (Kjell), Andy Haight (Debbie), Grandchildren Chase Murtie, Nicholas Haight, Nathan Murtie. Step Grandchildren Tara, Heather and Orenda. Great granddaughter Penny (Murtie). Her life was also blessed with loved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her many friendships enriched her life.
