1941 - 2023

Janice Kay (Olson) Rogers, beloved mother, wife, sister, and friend, passed away on September 15th, 2023, at the age of 82. She was born on May 25th, 1941, in New Rockford, North Dakota, to Doug and Peggy Olson and was the second of four siblings. Growing up in New Rockford, she enjoyed spending summers at Lake Lida, MN with her family and talked about how she would take her younger sister, Sherry, along on dates because Sherry was “the funny one.” Jan graduated from New Rockford High School in 1959 where she was involved in choir, band, and as a cheerleader.

Jan graduated in 1962 as an RN from St. Lukes School of Nursing. Jan was an excellent nurse and had a varied career working in a kidney transplant critical care unit, the operating room at Boulder Memorial, an outpatient surgery center, and in a family practice doctor’s office at Avista.

Jan moved to Denver to work at Colorado General Hospital and met her future husband, David Rogers, when he pretended to be a “trainee” and went along with a friend that was a life-insurance salesman calling on a house full of young nurses. They were married in 1967 on a balmy minus 20-degree February day in New Rockford. Jan and Dave made their home in Boulder until 2006 when they relocated to Erie.

Jan was very active in the lives of her two children and their friends. Depending on the time of year, her Saturdays were spent on the sidelines of a soccer field, the deck of a swimming pool, or the slopes of various Colorado ski areas. She was a Girl Scout leader, VBS and Sunday School music leader, a school nurse at Burke Elementary and Burbank Junior High school in Boulder, and neighborhood nurse for everyone’s bumps, scrapes, and bruises.

Jan was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church, Boulder, for 38 years and of Faith Community Lutheran Church, Longmont, for the past 18 years. She was always very active in her church community and participated in choir, making quilts, circle, VBS, Stephen’s Ministry, prayer shawl ministry, and BSF.

Jan was also an active member in Sons of Norway, multiple golf leagues, ski groups, and anything else her children or David were involved in. In her retirement years, Jan spent her time volunteering with various groups and loved especially to travel and visit her grandchildren.

Jan's journey in life was marked by compassion, dedication, and an unwavering love for her family, community, and Lord. She will be missed by everyone that knew her.

Jan is survived by: her loving husband, Dave Rogers; children Sandra (Robert) Kammerzell and Erik Rogers, siblings Richard (Ann) Olson and Rusty Olson, grandchildren Darla and Klara Kammerzell, several brothers and sisters in-law, and many nieces and nephews.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Sherry Leslie, and a number of brothers and sisters in-law.

A celebration of Jan’s life will be held at Faith Community Lutheran Church in Longmont, CO on October 12th at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to:
