John Caspar Wagner, 70, passed away Friday morning, October 22, 2021 at home in Thornton, Colorado with his family by his side. Born in Tucson, Arizona, John is the son of the late Virginia May and John Albert Wagner. John is survived by his wife Constance of 47 years, son John, daughter Terri, and sister Patricia as well as his grandchildren Jacob, Zoe, and Jayce.

John was a pioneer in the computer industry, graduating with a BS in Applied Mathematics from CU Boulder in 1975 and eventually retiring in 2007 from the position of Chief Information Officer for the State of Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing.

The skills John passed on to his children covered everything from finances to home improvement, and he enjoyed working on projects with them during his retirement. His grandchildren will always remember his smile as they played games, built with legos and construx, and played catch and basketball.

John’s love of woodworking was a true passion and gift. During retirement he was often found in his woodshop working on some new project. His beautiful pieces are lovingly displayed in the homes of family and friends everywhere. Lesser known were his hobbies of coin and stamp collecting to which he devoted many loving hours. John recently designed and oversaw construction of a family vacation cabin in Wyoming that will be enjoyed by generations to come.

In lieu of flowers, please consider planting a tree or donating to the Arbor Society to continue the joy that John found in the outdoors.
