John "Jack" Carroll Rutledge

John Carroll (Jack) Rutledge, 86, died on November 22 at his home after an extended illness. Jack was born in Brock, NE to Carroll and Cora Rutledge on September 14, 1935. The family moved to Loveland, CO where Jack attended school and graduated from Loveland High School in 1954. He joined the Army Reserve and was honorably discharged after he served for six years. Jack learned and loved farming working with his father. He raised dryland wheat, and irrigated barley, corn, sugar beets, and pinto beans in Larimer and Weld counties. He spent time wheeling, dealing, and trading his tractors, trucks and implements.

Jack married Carole Lerud on August 24, 1968. He, along with help from family and friends, built their home on the family farm north of Fort Collins where they raised their four children. He was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend.

After his retirement in 2000, he spent the next five years building a log home retreat with beautiful views of the Colorado landscapes that he loved. Jack loved fishing and taking tractor rides with his kids and grandkids.

Jack was preceded in death by his mother, father, and sister, Norma Jean Hoff. He is survived by his wife, Carole, children Tamara (Cory) Stevens, Lisa (Mark) Gallegos, Kristin (Scott) Lewis, and Brian (Abigail) Rutledge; grandchildren Jack and Alex Stevens, Tyler and Taia Gallegos, Owen and Katie Lewis, and Elora Rutledge; his brother, Larry (Carolyn) Rutledge, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Memorial donations may be made to Pathways of Northern ColoradoSt. Jude’s Research Hospital, and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of the Rocky Mountains.

Jack’s Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, November 30 at 1:00 p.m. at Kibbey-Fishburn Funeral Home in Loveland. A reception will be held following the service from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at The Cleveland Room 201 E. 4th Street.
