Joseph Laverne (Joe) Daly, 88, of Loveland, Colorado (formerly of Fort Collins), passed away on April 3, 2022.

Joe was born in St. George, Utah to James L. and Ovilla Empey Daly on June 27, 1933. He attended elementary through high school in Richfield, Utah, where he participated in the Richfield High School ROTC. He later went to the University of Utah graduating with a bachelor’s degree in History, and then a PhD in Educational Psychology.

He married Elaine Peterson, also from Richfield, on March 17, 1958 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Joe was a professor in the Education Department at Colorado State University for 32 years, retiring in August of 2000. He loved teaching and was well-respected by his students. Joe was an active, life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, faithfully serving in many positions in the church over the years. He was also very civic-minded, serving three terms on the Poudre R-1 District School Board, much of that time as President of the Board. He enthusiastically contributed untold hours to community, church and schools, where he positively affected lives of all ages. He officiated, supported, participated in and coached various sports teams and sporting events. Joe enjoyed a brief Hollywood career that began and ended with the 1970’s movie “One on One” –filmed at CSU– in which he appeared as a basketball official.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, James L. and Ovilla Empey Daly; his brothers, Claude Thomas (Tom) Daly, James Arthur (Art) Daly, and Franklin L. (Frank) Daly; and grandson, Aaron J. Daly.

Joe is survived by his wife, Elaine; children, Todd J. Daly of Provo, UT, Diane Hannett (Tom) of Victorville, CA, Christine Hiatt (Rick) of Berthoud, CO, Craig J. Daly of Loveland, CO, Claire Brown (Terry) of Provo, UT, and Bryan J. Daly (Sarah) of Denver, CO; siblings, Jay W. Daly (Carolyn) of Kaysville, UT, and Eleanor Salm Rude of Modesto, CA; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday April 15, 2022, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 1445 West 28th Street, Loveland, Colorado. Services will be preceded by a viewing at 9:00 a.m. and followed by burial at Resthaven Memory Gardens 8426 US 287, Ft. Collins.
