June 26, 1926 - October 15, 2023
Joseph George Weinmeier (97) of Broomfield, Colorado passed away peacefully on October 15th, 2023. Joseph was surrounded by loving family and friends when he was sent up to Heaven to be with the Lord.
Joseph was born in Winona, Kansas on June 26, 1926 to his parents George and Mathilda Weinmeier. The family moved to Mankato, Minnesota in May of 1935 because of the dust storms in Kansas. They resided there for five years and then moved to Chicago, Illinois. In 1944, Joseph joined the Marine Corp and was stationed in the South Pacific for 2 ½ years during World War II. Joseph came home in 1946 and shortly thereafter joined the roller derby for three years until 1952.
Joseph then moved to California and married Carmen Zeni and they had two sons Mark Joseph and Joseph John. In 1957 Joseph was transferred to Colorado for his job. After some time, Carmen and Joseph went their separate ways. In 1961, Joseph met Florence Sterkel and they were married one year later. In 1963, Joseph adopted Florence’s son Robert. They enjoyed many activities together as a family from waterskiing, fishing, golfing, hunting, snow skiing and dancing. During this time, Joseph obtained his pilot’s license and flew Cessna airplanes. Joseph worked for Leprino Foods for many years and retired with the Teamsters. After 45 happy years of marriage, Florence passed away in 2007.
Following the loss of his dear wife Florence, Joseph was able to find love again in 2008 with his loving companion Lori Schwindt. For the next 15 years they enjoyed traveling, attending Marine Corp events and especially line dancing and meeting with friends at the Lakewood Elks. Joseph was also a very faithful member of his church and ushered Mass every Sunday.
The last few years of Joseph’s life he loved playing golf and spending time with family and friends. Joseph was treasured by many and loved by all. We will never forget his laughter and sense of humor. Joseph will be forever in our hearts and dearly missed.
Joseph is survived by his loving companion Lori Schwindt, son Robert (Anna) Weinmeier, sister Cheryl (Wally) Falardeau, grandchildren Cara Weinmeier, Raymond Weinmeier, Mark Weinmeier, Laya Greer, Joseph Weinmeier and Jennifer Weinmeier, 16 great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
