Joy was born in Detroit, MI and passed in Longmont, CO surrounded by loving friends and family.  She is survived by her two sons Craig Stoner of Boulder Creek CA, Burton Stoner (Kathy) of Longmont CO and three grandkids Sarah, Morgan, and Ethan.

That’s the basic (boring) stuff.  What’s important is that she was a lifelong learner, teacher, and adventurer.  An indomitable force of nature, she always encouraged others to indulge their curiosity and follow it wherever it led.  More often than not, you’d be hard put to keep up with her birdwatching, running, biking, kayaking, snow shoeing, dancing, practicing piano and Spanish, and most recently galavanting around the country in her customized Grandma Joy travel van extraordinaire.

Untold scores of people were influenced and touched by Joy, and in this way she will live on forever.  It makes missing her a bit less of a burden to bear.  Safe journeys Joy!

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to firstbook.org.  Children’s literacy was a passion for her.
