Judith Patricia Oddie, 97, passed away in Boulder, Colorado on June 30 after battling Covid pneumonia. Loving, generous, and compassionate, she was born in Torquay, on the South Devon Coast in England. At 2, she moved to Coppet, Switzerland, on Lake Geneva, where she became fluent in French and Italian. When she was 14, she moved with her family to Cornwall, England, suffered a broken leg, and became fascinated with how kind and helpful the doctors and nurses were. She began her training as a nurse at 17, received her R.N., and took a job in London working with sick children.

At 29, she began hearing about the nursing opportunities in Canada, so she emigrated from England to begin working at the Sick Children’s Hospital in Toronto. It was in Toronto that she met the love of her life, Alan Oddie, who had emigrated from Scotland the month before. They married and moved to Dayton, Ohio, where they had five daughters. When the oldest was 14, the family moved to Santa Monica, California, where Alan worked with a film company and Judith continued her career as an R.N. at UCLA Medical Center.

After the children were raised, Judith and Alan retired and moved to the peaceful hamlet of Bosquet de Barjou, France. Several years later, Alan suffered a fatal heart attack, and Judith returned to the states—Boulder, Colorado this time—where 3 of her daughters were living. It was here, for 30 years, that Judith enjoyed traveling with her daughters and grandchildren to islands and beaches and volunteering at Avista Hospital. She spent her final 17 years at Frasier Meadows where she participated in the community activities and built lasting friendships with the residents and staff.

Judith is survived by her 5 beloved daughters, 6 beautiful grandchildren, and her fluffy cat, Maui. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Personal notes to the family or gifts in Judith’s name may be made to www.gmfuneral.com
