Judy Burback joined her family in the afterlife on Sunday, February 19, 2023, at the age of 71.

Near the end of her life, Judy had questioned whether there really was a heaven. So very much had been taken from Judy in her lifetime. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Burback, her only son, Timothy Dewain Sowell, Jr., her only grandson, Jacob Edward Sowell, her only sister, Cheryl Chancellor, her father, Dave Pope, and by her mother, JoAnn Pope, who we said goodbye to in April of 2022. May they all rest in eternal peace. Judy is survived by her dear nephew, David Chancellor and his daughter, Tessa, her nephew, John Chancellor and his sons, Bryson, Liam, Lane, and Brent, and by Mia, her cat.

Judy Lynn Pope was born and raised in Longmont, Colorado and graduated from Longmont High School. She married her best friend, James Wayne Burback, on December 8, 1995 in Longmont. Together, Judy and Jim conquered many obstacles. In 1993, they fulfilled Jim's dream of owning a trucking company and started J/J Trucking.

Together with Jim, Judy was a longtime member of VFW Post #2601 and the Moose Lodge in Longmont. She was a woman of great faith throughout her life. She was a hardworking and honest woman. Judy would often make trips up the hill to Blackhawk, Colorado with her mom, JoAnn. They enjoyed a little gambling and playing the slots, where JoAnn never lost, but mostly they enjoyed the time they spent together. Judy loved horses. They were her passion. She was well known as a barrel racer in the rodeo circuit and had won many buckles in her cowgirl days. Most of all, Judy loved her family. She will be missed.

An intimate Celebration of Judy’s Life will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at 2pm in Longmont. Please reach out to the family for more details. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Judy's memory can be made to VFW Post #2601. Cremation services entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Per her wishes, Judy will be placed to rest with her family at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery at a later date. Memories and condolences are welcome at www.ahlbergfuneralchapel.com.
