January 4, 1951 - November 22, 2022
Kay Elaine Robinson, beloved wife, mother, and community member, age 71, of Loveland, passed away suddenly and very unexpectedly from a pulmonary embolism on November 22, 2022. Her loss will be felt in the numerous communities she enriched with her spirit of kindness and generosity over many decades in Loveland and around the country. Kay was born to Wilson and Hilda (Floom) Rothermel on January 4, 1951 in Canton, Ohio. She graduated from Central Catholic High School in Canton, Ohio (National Honor Society, President of Future Nurses Club) and Massillon City Hospital School of Nursing in Massillon, Ohio.
She found fulfillment as a Nurse Practitioner in the Hematology-Oncology Clinic of Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio and then showed her adventurous side by working as the Charge Nurse in the Neurological-Medical unit of Central Middlesex Hospital in London, England - using this opportunity to explore several countries in Europe.
She married Craig Robinson in 1977 and moved to Loveland, Colorado where she worked in Pediatrics practices and in a Hematology-Oncology clinic. Kay raised two wonderful children, Brittany and Patrick on their acreage in the foothills west of Loveland.
Kay was a Hospice volunteer, active member of Philomatheon Club and PEO FL (flower sale leader), and volunteered at Safehouse for Battered Women. She served as an Elder of the Buckhorn Presbyterian Church in Masonville, and as the Parish Nurse at First United Presbyterian Church in Loveland.
She loved snow skiing, hiking, gardening, and getting together with her friends to play Bridge, Bunko, or Rummikub. She loved garage sales and bargain hunting - always on the search for the perfect gift her friends didn’t even know they wanted - at a bargain price, of course. Kay was known for her Chokecherry jelly, which she gave away to friends or donated to organizations for sale. She nurtured 3 pairs of collies and numerous cats over the past 33 years. Kay also raised chickens - including her favorite, Molly, who let Kay hold her - and gave away the eggs. When asked if they could buy her eggs, her reply was "my girls aren't that way !"
Her favorite saying was "Be Kind", and she was always looking for ways to help out others - driving someone to a medical appointment, bringing friends into a residence home to play bridge with a fourth friend, or supplying wheelchairs and walkers to people after medical procedures. Kay thoughtfully curated an amazing community - always seeking to bring people together, to truly listen to them, and to bring them joy. These acts brought fulfillment to her life. She has done so much for so many others.
Kay is survived by husband Craig, daughter Brittany, son Patrick and wife Roxanne, sister Joyce and husband Michael, brother Rodney and wife Patricia, brother William Sammons and wife Tracy, sister-in-law Alicia Meyer and husband James, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister Gail.
A memorial service will be held on January 4, 2023 at 1:00 pm at First United Presbyterian Church, 400 E 4th St, Loveland, CO.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the charities Kay supported: Birthline of Loveland, Loveland Community Kitchen, or Food Bank for Larimer County.
