Larry E. Pickerell, 69, passed away April 23, 2021 at his home in Longmont, CO.

He was born on November 6, 1951 in Canon City, Colorado to James E. and Alice M. (Bailey) Pickerell. In 1970 Larry graduated from Longmont High School. Following high school he joined the United States Air Force and was trained as an aircraft mechanic. While in the Air Force he was stationed in Iceland and Clovis, New Mexico. Larry received several other aircraft certifications from other organizations including Colorado Aerotech. Larry’s love for aircrafts led to a lifelong career in aviation. He worked for various companies and ran his own business. In 2001 Larry finished building his own airplane. Larry’s airplane was one of his greatest accomplishments, he received several awards for it. It was even featured on the cover of Trade-A-Plane. Recently Larry worked on world class research systems on aircrafts designed to carry out atmospheric and climate research; with this he traveled around the world supporting research efforts by NASA, NCAR, UCAR, NOAA and other various government agencies of China and Thailand. Larry was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, the FAA, EAA, AMA and LEAF. Larry also loved going to the mountains, restoring classic cars, and riding his bike. Larry’s patient, kind, hardworking, and optimistic personality made everyone he came in contact with feel cared for. In 1990 Larry married Debbie, the love of his life. Together they have eight children, Kenneth Gibson (Nadiya), Stefanie Floodeen (Tom Jr.), Brian Pickerell (Jen), Jamie Chandler (Kyle), Christine Armstrong (Devin), Thomas Gibson (Tarazza), Amanda Germain (Stellio), and Nikki Waring (Callum). Larry and Debbie have 37 grandchildren. Larry is preceded in death by his mother, father, brother Greg and grandchildren Miracle and Kulyn.

Larry's Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 1, 2021 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 2200 11th Ave., Longmont, CO 80501 at 9:30am. A Public Visitation will be held one hour prior. Graveside Services will be invite only at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.
