Leo Michael Meyer, Jr., “Mike” was born on November 1, 1935 to Helen Bagnell Meyer and Leo Michael Meyer, Sr. in Wheaton, IL. He graduated from Joliet Catholic High School in 1953 and from Lewis College, Lockport, IL in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. He received an award for having the highest scholastic average during his years at Lewis.

Mike worked for Quaker Oats and later for Portland Cement Association in the Chicago area. He felt honored to be in the Marine Reserves and trained at 29 Palms and Camp Pendleton, CA. In 1977, Mike married Renee Gottschalk, who he had met in Elmhurst Ski Club. The couple moved to Fort Collins, CO in 1979 where Mike worked as a chemist in the research lab at Holcim Cement Company in LaPorte, CO until retiring in 2000.

Mike’s hobbies included hunting and fishing, skiing, bike riding and reading about history. He and Renee loved doing activities together in the great outdoors. Mike enjoyed volunteering at Rocky Mountain National Park and at St. John XXIII Catholic Church where he was a member, doing computer work for the church library.

Mike is survived by his wife Renee and eight siblings: Gretchen Brisolara of Huntley, IL, Ginny Gregory (Dennis) of Plano, IL; Mary Masilak (Joe) of Joliet, IL; Helen Kamhi (Lane) of Indianapolis, IN; John Robert Meyer of Rockdale, IL; Edward Meyer (Bonnie) of Rolling Meadows, IL; Thomas Meyer (Blanca) of Batavia, IL; and Lawrence Meyer (Eve) of Loganville, GA. He also has many loving nieces and nephews and, of course, his Shepherd-mix dog, Lilly.

Mike is preceded in death by his brother-in-law Chuck Brisolara and his sister-in-law Mary Jane Meyer.
