May 13, 1930 ~ November 6, 2021 (age 91)

Louise DeCandia Gainfort, 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 6, 2021.

She was born on May 13, 1930 in New Brunswick, New Jersey, one of four children born to Thomas and Sally DeCandia. Louise spent the first part of her life in New Brunswick, and in 1950 met George Kenneth Gainfort. They were married on September 16, 1950 and shared over fifty-seven years together. They lived in Maple Shade, New Jersey for most of their married life, raising three children there, John, Amy, and Sally.

Moving to Colorado over 7 years ago, Louise never forgot her New Jersey roots.

“Weezie”, as she is known to her family and friends, accomplished many things during her life. Working for the Vollrath Stainless Steel Company as a salesperson, Weezie sold cookware and put on dinners to teach people how to make healthier meals. She worked as a medical assistant and as a nutritionist. She authored numerous newspaper articles and four cookbooks, the sales of which benefitted one of her favorite passions, The Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Her recipes were featured in Rodale’s cookbooks, and she also collaborated with Nathan Pritikin. Working with Patch Adams and others, Weezie helped to raise funds for various charities. She was an active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Maple Shade, New Jersey for many years and helped to start the Maple Shade chapter of AARP.

Louise is survived by her children, John Gainfort (wife Susan), Amy Katz-Rickenbach, and Sally Gainfort-Lackey (husband Philip); grandchildren Brian (wife Dianna), Aubrey (husband Santosh), Spencer (wife Alexandra), Gregory (fiancée Elicia), Alexis, and Marshall (fiancée Sydney); great-grandchildren Haleigh, Seraphina, Georgianna, Amir, and Kenli; sister Evelyn (husband Dale); sisters-in-law Pat DeCandia and Martha DeCandia; and many nieces and nephews.
