March 9, 1934 - April 1, 2022

Phyllis Jean Vlass went to be with the Lord on April 1, 2022 after several months of declining health. Her three children were by her side.  She was born to Howell and Theresa (Burd) James on March 9, 1934 in Kanorado, Kansas.  After struggling on the family farm through the Dust Bowl and Great Depression, her family moved to Denver in search of a better life.  She was the first member of her family to attend college and she pursued a secretarial degree at Colorado A&M (CSU).  She met her husband, Norman, at the Tri Delta sorority house where he worked as a house boy serving the “lovelies”.  They were married on June 11, 1955 in Denver and enjoyed 56 full and adventurous years of marriage together. They moved around early in marriage but settled in Loveland with their young family in 1968 and remained there for the rest of their lives.

Phyllis dedicated her life to serving others.  Her love for Christ motivated her to regularly serve in her church, her community, and her family.  Additionally, she loved golfing, skiing, international travel, and taking advantage of the great Colorado outdoors.

After a personal struggle with cancer, Phyllis and Norman became active in the American Cancer Society.  Together, they brought Relay for Life to Loveland which has raised over a million dollars for cancer research. After Norm’s passing, Phyllis has most recently lived at Good Samaritan and built many meaningful friendships.

She joins family members and her beloved Norman who are already with the Lord.  She is survived by her three children, Brian, Glenn, and Sharon, 9 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial service was held Friday April 8th at the LifeSpring Covenant Church, Loveland at 11:00 AM. It will also be available through livestream at lifespringchurch.org/PhyllisVlass.
