1935 - 2022
Richard Frank Parmer (86) went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, April 1, 2022. He was born November 21, 1935 in Burlington, Colorado to Bob and Lillian Parmer. Richard had one older brother Raymond, and two younger sisters, Barbara and Joan. Richard spent most of his childhood in Burlington. In 1953 he moved to Limon, Colorado with his family where he worked at the Frontier Station with his father and brother. Richard was always interested in vehicles; he spent many hours with friends working on their race car.
After their father (Bob) passed away, Richard and Raymond continued to run the Frontier Station. It was there, in 1960, that Richard met the love of his life Cherie Lorraine Piper. They were married June 10, 1963. To this union, Richard brought three daughters Beverly, Diana and Debbie and Cherie brought one daughter Lori Dawn. Together the couple added a son, Brian and a daughter, Brenda. Richard and Cherie leased and operated the Conoco station in Limon until the state purchased the property for interstate construction. After leaving the Conoco they leased the Chevron station where Rich was a U-Haul dealer and in 1971 he made the top 100 award for sales. In 1987 he and his son Brian purchased the old Husky station in Hugo, Colorado to open Parmer’s Automotive.
In 1991, Richard and Cherie decided they loved Hugo so much they moved there. Richard and Brian worked side-by-side repairing everything from toasters to trucks at Parmer’s Automotive, until Richard retired in 1995. Deciding retirement was too boring; he decided to become a farmhand, which brought him great joy. He continued working until 2018 when he finally decided to try retirement once again. He enjoyed his later years, puttering with machines and working in his orchard. Richard loved the outdoors, horses, hunting and operating the wrecker he built while running the Conoco. If you knew Richard you know he would talk about the wrecker and about horses for hours. With many photos around his house to prove it, Richard was incredibly proud of his family. He loved them all in his own way and enjoyed talking about them at every opportunity.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife Cherie, his parents Bob and Lillian, his siblings, Raymond, Barbara and Joan, and his daughter Lori Dawn. He is survived by his daughters Beverly (Gary) Burgess of Colorado Springs, Diana (Danny) Jeans of Ellijay Georgia, Debbie (Dwight) Burgess of Grand Junction Colorado, Brenda (Rich) Goines of Limon, Colorado and his son Brian (Kim) Parmer of Hugo, Colorado, 12 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Service at Simla Cemetery Wed., April 6, 2022, 3:00 pm. Memorial following at the Limon Church of Christ.
