Richard Leroy Burkhart was born August 31, 1933 to William and Margaret Burkhart in Brighton, Colorado. He passed away on March 5, 2022 at Valley View Care Center in Fort Morgan, Colorado. He lived his early years along the Front Range area, graduating from Erie High School. He met the love of his life, Mae, at the candy shop where she worked and married her on March 6, 1953. Following their marriage, Richard was drafted into the Army where he served in Korea and made some lifelong friends. Richard and Mae were married for 65 years before her passing in 2018. They had two children, William (Bill) and Jeannie. They farmed the Mead area for many years before moving their farm operation to Fort Morgan in 1999. Richard enjoyed polka music, and was a lifelong farmer, wanting to help with farm operations even after his retirement.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mae and their daughter Jeannie Harder. He is survived by his son, Bill and wife Mary Burkhart; son-in-law Bob Harder; 7 grandchildren - Kenny Harder (Megan), Ashlea Gallon, Rachel Harder (Megan), Amanda Hogan, Angie Harder, Chris Burkhart and Kaitlyn Burkart; 8 great-grandchildren, one sister Shirley Ernst (Harvey) and numerous nieces and nephews.
