Rosemary Hastie Dressel

Rosemary was born 10/31/45 to Joseph and Rachel Jefferson Beggen in Scranton, Pennsylvania and was the 9th of 10 children.  Rosemary and her younger brother Jimmy were adopted by James and Edna Wittig Hastie in 1949.  Her name was changed from Mary Alice to Rosemary Alice.  Rose was added by her parents to honor her grandmother Rose Golden Wittig.  In 1950 they moved from Great Neck to Massapequa, NY.

Rosemary graduated from St. Francis Nursing School and practiced nursing in Manhattan, NY and Beth Page, NY.  She married William Dressel 12/6/69 and they lived in Fishkill, NY for 2 years before moving to Poughkeepsie, NY.  She had 3 children with William Dressel:  William David Dressel Jr. (1970) and twin daughters, Christine and Jennifer (1973).  She continued to work in various fields of nursing and then acquired a second degree from SUNY at New Paltz in 1991.  She moved to Kingston, NY in 1991 and became a Disability Determination Analyst in 1992.  She moved to Binghamton, NY in 1998 and continued to work in the same field until she retired in 2011.  She moved to Colorado in 2014 to be near her son Bill and his wife Jenn and their family.

Rosemary enjoyed puzzles, Scrabble, talking with her friends, spending time with Bill and his family, watching the news and movies, listening to murder mystery and comedy books on tape, playing with her dog Maddie, and had a recent passion for orchids.  She had a soft spot for animals, especially dogs.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, and her grandchildren:

  • Bill and Jenn Dressel and their children: Riley and Emily
  • Christine and Dave and their children: Triston, Rece, Levi
  • Jennifer and Ricky and their children: Jake and Chloe

She has requested a small private spreading of her ashes in the mountains.
