Roy Adrian Poole, Jr., of Longmont, Colorado passed away on Thursday, December 24, 2020, at the Life Care Center of Longmont after a courageous battle with Parkinson disease since 2006. He was 82.
Roy was born February 7, 1938 in Hood River, Oregon to Roy Adrian and Oma Lee (Morgan) Poole. In the mid 1940’s, his parents moved the family to Roseville, California where he grew up and attended school. He graduated from Roseville Union High School, Roseville, California in 1956. In 1964 he attended Utah State University and graduated in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. He served in the California Air National Guard from 1956-1961.
Roy married Lily Guido February 16, 1957 in Roseville, California and together they had two sons, Jeffrey Scott & Timothy Alan. They later divorced in 1978. He married Carolyn K (Wambolt Myers) Clifton, September 8, 1990 in Longmont, Colorado.
Roy worked a couple years for Pacific Fruit Express and then in the aerospace industry for 10 years as a draftsman. First for Aerojet General in Sacramento, California for two years,, then for Thiokol Chemical Corporation in Brigham City, Utah for four years, and a part time job at American Home Center for three years while in college. After graduation from college, he worked again for Thiokol Chemical Corporation for a year before moving his family to Longmont, Colorado in 1968 where he began working for IBM for 27 years, retiring in 1994.
He enjoyed his family, traveling, fishing, photography and playing golf. He was a member of the Longmont Genealogy Society, the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia (AHSGR) and the Longmont Parkinson Support Group. He was a very kind and thoughtful individual who will be deeply missed by all that knew him. The family wishes to thank all those who helped care for Roy these past few months.
He is survived by his wife Carolyn of Longmont; two sons, Jeffrey S Poole of Rigby, Idaho, grandsons Scott and Daniel; son Timothy A Poole of Sun Lakes, Arizona; step-daughter DeAnn K Myers and companion Ken Feldman of Bellvue, step-son Dustin S Myers of Longmont, step grand-daughters Ashley (Adam) Bell & Chloe Myers; brother, William J Poole and his family of Folsom, California; sister, Emma L Jones and her family of Citrus Heights, California; sister-in-law Delores J Helzer of Longmont, step nieces KaraLea Helzer of Berthoud and Colleen Helzer, and step great grandniece Brooke Helzer of Loveland. Many nieces, nephews, step grandchildren, step great grandchildren and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughters-in-law, Donna Poole and Julie Poole, and sister-in-law Ladeen Poole.
A private graveside service will be held in the Loveland Burial Park at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to your favorite charity in honor of Roy.
