November 17, 1957 – November 13, 2021

It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Tom Oldfield.  He was a beloved father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, but more than anything he was a loving, proud dad to JT.  Tom passed away on Saturday, November 13, 2021 in Mesa, AZ.

Thomas Scott Oldfield was born in Denver, CO on November 17, 1957.  He grew up in Denver playing every sport available (often coached by his own father), but baseball was by far his favorite and it became an unending passion in his life.  Tom graduated from George Washington High School in 1976. He attended and played baseball at Lamar Community College and Mesa State College.

Whatever job Tom had, coaching baseball and softball was always his side-gig.  He coached his nephew and niece as they grew up. He coached JT for many seasons. He coached college-aged, summer teams, coached several high school programs, coached club teams, and individually coached countless kids as they worked to improve their fundamentals, mechanics, and knowledge of the game. He took great pride in being a coach.

Tom is survived by his son JT Oldfield, his sister Pam Hayden, his aunt Margaret Simmons, and his niece and nephews; Alyssa Jarvis, Tyler Hayden, Stuart Hayden, and Andrew Oldfield. He is preceded in death by his mother Janet F. Oldfield (Weedman), brother David A. Oldfield, and father Donald G. Oldfield.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 15th 2022 at 3:30 pm at McCormick Hall in the Community Recreation Center located at 6842 Wadsworth Blvd, Arvada CO 80003.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to Major League Baseball’s Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities program which helps inner city youth have improved access to the game Tom loved.
