Vincent “Mike” Heinz, 80, of Broomfield, Colorado, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on September 1, 2023. Mike was born on September 22, 1942 in St. Peter, Minnesota. He was the eldest of four children of Margaret and Vince Heinz.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Susan, and her husband, John Johnson. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Barbara, their three children: Michael (Timothy Koby), Elizabeth (Neil) Gulley and CJ, and his brothers, Joe (Peg) Heinz and Tom (Louise Miles), many in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.
After graduating from St. Thomas University with a B.A. in English, Mike proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, receiving a Purple Heart during his Vietnam deployment. Later he earned his Juris Doctorate from the Denver University School of Law. Returning to the Twin Cities, Mike began volunteering at St. Stephens church and special needs religious education program. It was there he met the love of his life, Barbara Anderson, and they married in 1984. A lifelong Catholic, Mikes steadfast belief was integrated into all aspects of his life, including his family, his work, and civic duty. He was a dedicated foster father and an ardent Pro-Life supporter. He served as Deputy District Attorney in Adams County CO for over 30 years.
In his final years as a public prosecutor, he was instrumental in establishing the Veterans Court, which served veterans in the judicial system. Outside of his work, Mike was an avid hiker and enjoyed playing games, traveling, having a good cup of coffee and talking with family and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at Spirit of Christ Catholic Community located at 7400 W 80 Ave. in Arvada, CO. Visitation will be at 2:00 PM in the church gathering space. The funeral mass will follow in the chapel at 3:00 PM. The burial will be in MN at a later date.
