Virgil W. Piland was born December 22, 1938 and passed away October 16, 2021 at the age of 83 years old. Virgil was born in Macksville, Kansas to Boyd and Elma (Newby) Piland. Virgil was one of three children; one brother and one sister. He was married to Judy Werner on February 13, 1987. Together they shared the love of their children Craig and Natalie Piland and Carl, Paula and Tobi Sondburg. Virgil and his family resided in the farming community of Bennett Colorado where they dry land wheat farmed for most of his life. His love for aviation as a private pilot set a personal goal to buy his, pride and joy, the Cessna Turbo 210 Aircraft. To continue his enjoyment of flying, he started a spray pilot crop dusting business in the 70’s.

Virgil graduated from Bennett High School in 1956 and enlisted in the Army Reserves where he was proud to have served his country in this capacity. He and his wife enjoyed life together for 34 years. They enjoyed traveling to their cabin in the Rocky Mountains, traveling in their RV across the United States. Judy remembers these times with great happiness as they shared living a life of great joy. His enjoyment of photography showed in photos he captured of their travels. Virgil was strong in character and worked hard to fill his role as a husband, father and provider for his family. His generosity of spirit will leave a great void in the lives of those whom he loved and loved him in return. Virgil is survived by his wife, Judy. Son’s; Craig (Diane) Piland, Carl (Stacy) Sondburg. Daughters; Paula Shapiro, Natalie (Greg) Nielson and Tobi (Frank) Placenti . He is also survived by Grandchildren; Zach Nielson, Kaylen Webber, Taylor Decell, Benjamin and Madison Shapiro, Michael and Izzi Placenti, Lexi Sondburg. Great Grand-child; Knox Decell. Brother, Lowell Piland and Sister, Marilyn Cronk. He was preceded in death by his parents, Boyd and Elma Piland, Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles.

A Memorial Service is being held Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 11:00 AM. at Mount View Fellowship in Strasburg, CO with burial following at the Mount View Cemetery in Bennett.
