January 16, 1933 - March 4, 2024

Wayne Alan Gibb, 91, passed away on March 4, 2024 in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Wayne was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey on January 16, 1933. Growing up in Union, NJ he worked on a local farm where he met his first love, “Dot”, an English Setter. This began his lifelong love of dogs, developing a fondness especially for yellow labs. He played football, baseball, and wrestled for Union High School; he graduated in 1951.

Wayne enlisted in the military during the Korean War and served bravely in the Air Force. Later in life, he had the privilege to participate in the Honor Flight for veteran’s program in Washington, D.C.

In 1957, Wayne married Janice Benson Gibb, also from Union, NJ. Together they raised three children in Martinsville, NJ. While living in NJ, Wayne was actively involved with Somerset County 4-H as a club leader and a member of the Association. He also raised and showed Alaskan Malamutes, was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, and a lifelong member of the Martinsville Volunteer Fire Department.

After a 35 year career with the Bell Telephone Company, Wayne retired to Berthoud, Colorado where he and his wife built their dream home looking at the Rocky Mountains. While in Berthoud he volunteered in Rocky Mountain National Park with a group that built & cleared trails, cut trees, and repaired fencing, as well as being a volunteer for the Colorado Division of Wildlife, and a member of the American Legion Post 15 in Loveland, CO.

Wayne enjoyed carving duck decoys, landscaping, music (especially the bagpipes and mandolin), fishing and boating on the Delaware River, Carter Lake and at his family home on Long Beach Island in New Jersey. He was proud of his Scottish heritage and his Presbyterian faith.

Wayne could be described as a humble man who would give an encouraging word during times of need, loved his family, nature, and the outdoors. He loved his Country, and in his later years, always enjoyed patriotic celebrations and parades.

In addition to his wife of 63 years Janice, Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Annie Graham (Sinclair), his sister Nancy, and his many beloved dogs. He is survived by his sons, Wright (Patsy) and Bradley (Bobbi) of Cheyenne, WY and daughter, Brenda Gibb Moore (Terrance) of Doylestown, PA, brother-in-law Richard Benson of Edison, NJ, as well as nieces and nephews.

A military funeral service for friends and family to pay tribute to Wayne will be on Monday, March 11th at 11:00 A.M. at the Foothills Garden of Memory in Longmont, CO.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Wayne’s memory to the Seeing Eye, Morristown, NJ (SeeingEye.org) or a dog charity of your choice. The family of Wayne wishes to extend their sincere thanks to his friends and neighbors who he considered family.
