Wilma Jean Weathers

Wilma Jean Weathers passed away Jan.31, 2021. She was 82. She was born Feb. 10, 1938 (Mauck) to Steven and Helen in Longmont. She attended school in Mead and later graduated from Longmont High School in 1956

She attended Colorado A & M (now Colorado State) on a music scholarship. It was there she met the love of her life Dick Weathers who also was attending Colorado A & M.

They married on March 16, 1958. They settled in Fort Collins, where she gave birth to Steve and Cindy. Later in life, they enjoyed the arrival of their daughter Chris who kept them busy and young and made their family complete. They moved to Longmont in 1961, where they remained close to family and made many lifelong friends.

She loved taking care of her family, but wanted to have a career as well. She excelled in an era when women were just starting to break into the corporate world. She started at IBM in 1965 as an assembler and then worked her way through the IBM ranks. While working full time and raising a family, she returned to Colorado State to continue her advanced education. She later retired in 1997 as a chemical engineer.

Wilma and Dick enjoyed many activities together. They were charter members of Fox Hill Country Club where they loved to golf and spend time partying with their friends. They also enjoyed bowling, travel and gambling. She was a voracious reader and enjoyed cross stitch.  She was an avid fan of the Denver Broncos and they held season tickets for many years and attended several Super Bowls with friends. They were also fans of  the CU Buffalos and local high school teams. She particularly loved going to games and cheering on her son and later her grandkids and great grandkids with her distinctive cheering voice. She was exceptionally proud of the achievements by all of her kids, grandkids and great grandkids.

After retirement, Wilma remained active. She was on a bowling league with her friends, she was a member of the Red Hat Society and loved getting dressed up and socializing with her group. For the past few years, she was a volunteer at Longmont Estates Elementary reading with the young kids. This was an activity that brought her great satisfaction and joy.  Her great grandchildren were frequent visitors who embraced their beloved GG and she embraced them.

Wilma had a tremendous love for family and instilled a sense of closeness and tradition her family will carry on for generations. She was loved by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Steve and Helen Mauck, her brother, Gary, sister-in-law, Judy, daughter-in-law, Sydney Weathers, and her beloved soul mate Richard.

She is survived by her brother Wilbur Mauck and her son Steve (Pam) and her two daughters, Cindy (Monte) and Chris, her grandchildren Nathan Weathers (Shalie) and Jackie Casas (Gabe) her nephews and her many great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Monday, Feb. 15 at 1 p.m. at Rocky Mountain Christian Church in Niwot. Services will be handled by Howe Mortuary.
