South Metro Fire Rescue responded to a call from Columbine High School yesterday around 11 a.m. in unincorporated Jefferson County for a “smoldering fire” in the school’s woodshop. The fire initially began as an exterior fire in the wood dust collector.

Then, around 11:13 a.m., the fire rescue service announced that the fire created a “flash fire” into the ventilation system of the school. The fire was reported shortly after to be under control, and Columbine High School students were evacuated as firefighters continued operations on scene.

At 12:11 p.m., it was announced by South Metro Fire Rescue that two firefighters were being evaluated on scene for minor injuries and that some students were also being evaluated for medical needs.

After Wednesday’s evacuation, the school did not reopen for the rest of the day. Columbine High School classes were also cancelled on Thursday while the school continues to be ventilated. According to CBS, the cause of the fire has been deemed accidental.
