The Chamber of Commerce Candidate Forum on Fri. Feb. 2 certainly made clear
the differences between our two active candidates. Tim Waters remained true
to his principles in the face of a berating by the event organizers that is
an unpleasant departure from the decorum we enjoyed in the fall election.
Goldberg, on the other hand, showed his true colors as a partisan for the
short-term thinking of the real-estate sector. Waters believes Developers
should provide a small percentage of affordable housing while Goldberg does
not. Video of the forum available on the Longmont Observer Facebook page.
It is clear to everyone that Longmont needs more variety in its housing
inventory than just an outer ring of McMansions and high-rise apartments.
We need workforce housing that's affordable to our teachers, city workers,
and recent college graduates buying their first home. We need single-floor
living for financially comfortable seniors to downsize into, as well as
low-cost housing for the affluent in every demographic. It's important for
the long-term viability of Longmont. Tim realizes this. The land
developers and real estate brokers of Longmont should also.
Tim Waters is the clear choice for Ward 1. He stands up for what he
believes, and what's right.
