When you turn in your ballot for this year’s local elections, I encourage you to vote for Shiquita Yarbrough and Aren Rodriguez for Longmont City Council at-Large. Ms. Yarbrough has a wealth of public service on her resume, serving on the city’s Health and Human Services Advisory Board, as well as the boards of the League of Women Voters and KGNU. Shiquita has never stopped and walked away from a problem. Instead, when she sees problems, she gets community members together to form coalitions, build bridges and instigate change. Ms. Yarbrough will also bring a much-needed social equity lens to the council, and a passion for our youth and environmental protection.

Mr. Rodiguez has served with distinction on city council for four years and deserves a second term. His knowledge of the issues, from housing and homelessness, to land use, and the sustainability plan, will continue to benefit the council. But Aren is not only knowledgeable on the issues. His actions and words configure a perfect balance of passion and pragmatism--a balance so often missing from politics today.

For these reasons and more, I urge you to vote for Shiquita Yarbrough and Aren Rodriguez for Longmont City Council on November 2nd.
