Letter to the editor: Opinion or no, no one immune from spreading coronavirus

"This virus is not going to skip your home because you offer public opinion and advice as a non-medical professional. If you are going to offer unsolicited medical advice then set an example and deliver advice from a medical expert, not your own unprofessional opinion."

I have read numerous reports of those that issue public warnings regarding COVID and disregard their own words and after asking the public to shelter in place in the media. These people have disregarded their own requests to the public. I have also reviewed videos and comments from those that claim to be experts and offering advice on a pandemic that has science and epidemiologist scrabbling for answers.

Can we please stop with the moronic opinions on the virus? People who are clearly educated but not in the field of science and medicine are making public appearances and claiming to be experts. Seriously mayors are telling people to shelter in place while they hop on a plane for the holidays. Gavin Newsom's dinner at French Laundry during a profound economic and public health crisis is an example of how public dysfunction and aristocratic indifference is separating mental wellness and narcissist thinking.

This virus is not going to skip your home because you offer public opinion and advice as a non-medical professional. If you are going to offer unsolicited medical advice then set an example and deliver advice from a medical expert, not your own unprofessional opinion.

So many people believe they are above the state requirements for preventing the spread … preaching to others and clearly hopping in their cars and traveling to well-infected areas because they think they are superior.

Practice what you preach — set an example and unless you're a medically trained epidemiologist then stop with the homemade videos. If you want to be an expert on a pandemic why don't you start with empathy and realizing that everyone is financially impacted and also emotionally impacted? Why do you think you can't spread the virus like everyone else?
