"Because a whopping one-third of the county’s budget goes to health and social services, it’s important to recognize that Jonathan Singer has unique qualifications in this regard."

No public offices, except city government, impact our daily lives more than county commissioners. County officials set policies and budgets for most of the local services we use, like social services and public health, the environment and open space protection, land use, roads, safety and law enforcement, permits, oil and gas development, and more.

Because a whopping one-third of the county’s budget goes to health and social services, it’s important to recognize that Jonathan Singer has unique qualifications in this regard. His advocacy for those most vulnerable started as a volunteer in high school and continued as a social worker. Working on the front lines of human services, Jonathan saw firsthand how government policies can help people in need.

As chair of the House Human Services Committee, he has a proven record of successfully passing bills that improve peoples’ lives. I have actively followed state legislation for four years and am so impressed with how Jonathan identifies issues people are struggling with and finds solutions by consistently making himself accessible to people, showing up to community events, holding frequent town halls, and listening. He works hard at earning bipartisan support that gets bills passed, like expanding health and mental health care access and affordability to those without. His legislative efforts have greatly benefited the LGBTQ and immigrant communities, including DACA recipients.

Jonathan is also dedicated to protecting our environment, health, safety and public lands, will invest in green jobs and has endorsements that include the Sierra Club, U.S. Rep. Joe Neguse and the St. Vrain teachers union. Jonathan has a progressive vision for Boulder County’s future and is the kind of leader that we need to get us through this crisis and ensure that all Boulder County residents, regardless of race or income, have powerful representation in county government.
