South and Eastern Longmont have had excellent representation in the Colorado State House. We are writing to ask Longmont Residents who belong to House District 12 to continue that tradition by voting for Sonya Jaquez Lewis to be our next Representative. We heartily endorse her.

Sonya will work for all members of our community, protecting our environment, and being a voice for House District 12. She’s a true progressive and she truly cares. She has proven that by her years of activism and leadership in our community.

Sonya is not a single-issue candidate. Of course she is an environmentalist and supports transition to clean technology practices across the state (and the world), as we all must. But Sonya won't forget that there are other life necessities that must be provided for.

Sonya's priorities align with ours: to always keep working families in the forefront. Sonya knows, as we do, that working families are increasingly unable to find and keep affordable housing. She served on the Boulder County Board of Health, where she coordinated emergency housing assistance for families who lost their homes during the catastrophic floods of 2013. She is the only HD 12 candidate with a concrete plan to help jump start Affordable Housing in Boulder County.

No Affordable Housing plan can work without jobs that let current Longmont residents continue to live in the city, and access to health care at affordable rates, so that one adverse health event does not lead to loss of housing. A licensed pharmacist, Sonya is uniquely qualified to advocate for improved access to affordable healthcare. These qualifications have earned her endorsements by Planned Parenthood and other health care and women's organizations She is the only HD 12 candidate endorsed by the AFL-CIO and the Boulder Area Labor Council. They know she understands working families.

Longmont is all about respect and protection for our diverse and wonderful residents. As a Latina LGBTQ Coloradan, Sonya’s voice at the State level will be important for Longmont. She has a lifetime of experience in building coalitions and helping people work together to achieve results. Hers is the voice our district needs today. We are proud to support Sonya Jaquez Lewis for for House District 12 representative!

We hope Observer readers will support Sonya too, with your vote. Your vote is your voice, the most powerful one we have. Please use it.
