Users who utilize the OverDrive app to access the Longmont Library’s collection will need to switch over to Libby by the end of April.

Beginning May 1, users who try to access the library’s digital collection of books, magazines and audiobooks via the OverDrive app will see a message saying they need to upgrade to Libby. The OverDrive app will not be available after May 1.

Libby is a newer reading app made by the same creators of OverDrive. In an announcement, creators said that the Libby app was launched in 2017 with the goal of creating a simple and intuitive library app that built on the core experience of the OverDrive app. To avoid interrupting experiences for users, both apps have been available.

Libby creators said that there’s no longer a reason to have two apps to do the same thing. Users can find out how to install Libby at www.overdrive.com/apps/libby/switchtolibby.

All Longmont Library card holders can access a huge selection of digital books, magazines and audiobooks for free through the Libby app or on their desktop computers through the Libby webpage.
