Boulder County in the new year will launch a new business grant program.

The Small Business COVID-19 Grant Relief Program, announced Wednesday, will be funded by the state, which has specified eligibility is limited to restaurants, bars (including breweries, wineries, and distilleries), caterers, movie theaters, gyms and recreation centers with annual receipts of $2.5 million or less, according to a news release.

Grants will range from $3,500 to $7,500, as specified in Senate Bill 20B-001, the $37 million COVID relief measure aimed at providing relief to small and minority businesses and arts organizations that was signed by Gov. Jared Polis on Dec. 7.

Grant funding will be evaluated based on applicant need and a clear indication of COVID-19 impact to the business, , according to the release.

The county will know by Jan. 15 how much funding will be available.

To qualify, businesses since March 26 must have experienced at least a 20% reduction in revenue because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Other eligibility criteria include being in good standing with the state and being in compliance with public health orders.

Businesses that received grants from a previous round of Boulder County Small Business Relief Grants, a city or town relief program or the federal Paycheck Protection Program or Economic Injury Disaster Loan programs can apply for the grants, but those that received funding from the Colorado Arts Relief Program are not, according to the release.

The online application is not yet available but will open in early January and will remain open for at least 21 days, according to the county. More information on how to apply will be available the week of Jan. 4 at www.boco.org/COVID-19ResourcesForBusinesses.
