Boulder County commissioners recently reallocated federal money to help support small businesses in Lyons and Nederland impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The support is coming from more than $15 million in federal CARES ACT Relief Fund money distributed to the county, according to a news release sent Monday.

Boulder County has distributed 45% of the funding it received via the Department of Local Affairs to cities and towns, according to the release. The remaining 55% of the money is being used to “support emergency response to the public health pandemic, funding for increased food access, better access to unemployment insurance, support for small businesses in unincorporated Boulder County (and to), support for safety net organizations,” according to the county.

Lyons has access to $200,000 for an estimated 110 business in town limits, according to the release.

The funding will help local businesses “cover rent, mortgage or utility payments due to revenue shortfalls from the pandemic,” Trustee Hollie Rogin stated in the release. “Additionally, the funds may also be used to help businesses pay for (personal protective equipment) or cleaning and sanitation supplies. This will positively impact many of our local businesses who have been tremendously impacted since March.”

Business owners can apply by contacting the town’s designated administrators: Brianna Hoyt, Main Street manager, at  [email protected] or Kim Mitchell, community relations director, at [email protected]

“The money will be put to good use in support of businesses who are struggling during the pandemic as they prepare for the winter months,” Town Administrator Karen Gerrity stated in the release.
