A pedestrian was hit by a car on Wednesday night due to rainy and windy weather in north Longmont.

At approximately 7:15 p.m., a Longmont Police community service officer responded to the intersection of 17th Avenue and Main Street on an injury collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle.

The pedestrian, who suffered minor injuries from the collision, was transported from the scene to the hospital in an ambulance, according to Robin Ericson, the communications and marketing manager at Longmont Police Department.

A police investigation into the incident revealed video footage of the intersection where the collision took place. The footage showed the vehicle making a left turn on a green left arrow and, at the same time, the pedestrian entering the crosswalk. The pedestrian began walking into the street despite the steady “don’t walk” signal that shown from across the street.

According to Ericson, the pedestrian violated a pedestrian traffic signal light and failed to yield to the vehicle’s right of way.

However, due to the roadway conditions which included wet pavement which was highly reflective and caused a glare, the rainy conditions and darkness, as well as the fact that there was no damage to the vehicle and that the pedestrian only suffered minor injuries, no citation was written to the pedestrian.

The driver was not at fault and therefore didn’t receive any citations for the incident either, Ericson said.
