Retired Niwot Elementary school teacher, Dale Peterson, hated working out because routines he had tried in the past bored him and his schedule prevented him from participating in classes. After his friends invited him to try 9Round, he was hooked and eventually bought the Longmont franchise.

Peterson was invited to the kickboxing fitness center by his good friends and the former owners of the gym, Jake and Marijune Scott. He fell in love with the ability to walk in on his schedule and get a full-body workout.

“I planned to really just augment other things I was doing, but I had never found anything that I really loved to do and nine years later, I’m still doing it,” Peterson said.

The exercise facility employs trainers who are ready to take members through nine rounds of a workout, each lasting three minutes. In total, customers spend 30 minutes at the gym. Workouts are not set on a schedule as participants can walk in any time the facility is open and receive the same workout, Peterson said.

When the Scotts were ready to move on to something new, Peterson felt that taking over the business was the right thing for him to do.

“I knew it was a business I believed in because I had been a member there for nine years … and I was still having fun with it,” Peterson said.

Peterson officially took over the business in September and later joined the Longmont Area Chamber of Commerce. On Tuesday, Peterson and 9Round celebrated the journey the business has taken over the past nine years at a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
