Whirlpool Corporation has partnered with Habitat for Humanity since 1999. As part of the BuildBetter with Whirlpool initiative, new Habitat homeowners will receive energy-efficient appliances.

The Build Better initiative helps homeowners mitigate the impacts of climate change by making homes more energy efficient.

“In a recent report by the Joint Centers for Housing Studies of Harvard University, low-income households across the U.S. struggled the most to pay energy bills at the beginning of 2022 due to high energy burden and spent nearly 13% of their income on utilities. As the global affordable housing challenge is exacerbated by the unprecedented climate challenge, low-income households in Colorado are faced with forgoing paying for necessities such as food or medicine or keeping their homes at unsafe or unhealthy temperatures to limit energy output,” the news release states.

Around 120 new energy-efficient homes are expected to be built this year by Habitat for Humanity using Whirlpool high-efficiency heating and cooling appliances. Habitat for Humanity of the St. Vrain Valley will join other programs across the country by incorporating water-conserving plumbing fixtures and other energy-efficient appliances.

“The aim is to deliver a long-term reduction in operating costs for homeowners through an expected improvement in energy efficiency of approximately 15% compared to homes built to current local government code,” according to Habitat for Humanity.

Over the course of the two organizations’ 22-year partnership, Whirlpool Corporation has donated more than $130 million to Habitat for Humanity. That generosity was spread to programs that serve over 45 countries.
