The local community radio station, KGNU, has been broadcasting from Boulder for 45 years. This year they finally found a new home to accommodate their growing needs.

Currently, the radio station is located at 4700 Walnut St. in Boulder. In 2018, the organization began exploring options to remodel its current space. They received tax dollars granted to them from Boulder voters in the November 2017 election. These funds amounted to $1.25 million with the stipulation that the station raise an additional $1.25 million.

Although the station believed at the time that a remodel was in their best interest, they recently reconsidered after finding a new location that would better suit their needs and cause the least amount of disruption to operations, according to a news release from KGNU. The new space will also accommodate new studios and a permanent media-makers training space.

The new home is a 10,098 sq ft. building at 1720 14th St. that cost $3.3 million. The location is close to Boulder High School, the farmers market and an RTD station.

“What a ride this was! Just as we ramp up to celebrate our 45th anniversary, the acquisition of the new property provides KGNU with a tremendous opportunity to amplify community voices, culture, and music from the heart of the City of Boulder,” said KGNU Station Manager Tim Russo. “I want to thank everyone who shared their input and our amazing partners who played distinct roles in bringing this phase of the project to fruition.”
