The eBike shop located at 724 Main St has been known as Small Planet eBikes since 2009. At the start of the new year, the shop adopted a new name — Spice eBikes — under new owner, Amy Wilkins.

Wilkins has been a Longmont resident for over 20 years. In February 2023, she purchased the shop from former owner Tom Wilson. Wilkins wanted to continue Wilson’s vision to reduce car use and help the planet, she said.

The eBike shop was one of the first of its kind in Colorado and has been an industry leader in the mission to make eBikes a true transportation alternative for families, commuters and recreational riders.

“Our customers tell us that eBikes are ‘game-changers,’ Wilkins said. “EBikes open up peoples’ lives in unexpected ways. I wanted a brand that made the excitement of eBikes come alive.”

Wilkins wanted to change the brand to one that focused more on her customer-centric vision for the store and that fit her personality more.

“I knew that the name Spice eBikes was a little out of the box for bike shops but I wanted a name that evoked my personality, my vision for the ways eBikes can spice up the lives of all customers,” Wilkins said. ”Everyone here embraces the idea that the process of buying an eBike should be fun and not intimidating.”

Her vision for the store is to capitalize on the intimate setting of the shop and offer outstanding personalized customer service paired with a “spice rack” of eBike options. She hopes this will make eBike shopping more inclusive and approachable for all levels of cyclists.
