Longmont Local: Main Street's party supply maven

Dulceria Bombon wants to take the stress out of party planning

Inside of Dulceria BomBon an inventory of colorful pinatas hang from the ceiling and spill onto the floor, shelves are filled with Mexican candies and model cakes on display have icing images of familiar cartoons. With an array of custom services, the Main Street store aims at being a one-stop shop for party needs.

Dulceria Bombon owner Linda Bueno got the idea for her store in 2015 when she was planning a birthday party for her son, the youngest of her three children. She struggled to find what she needed in Longmont.

“We realized how there weren't many options around in Longmont and how it took quite some time to travel to actually go and find what we were looking for,” Bueno said. “There's not enough in Longmont so we thought to go ahead and open [Dulceria Bombon].”

The party shop opened in 2016, at the time at 322 Main St. It has since moved to a larger location at 249 Main St. about a year and a half ago. Bueno is proud of the expansion, because she can show off the candy tables, a decorated buffet of treats, candies and fruit.

Bueno wears many hats for Dulceria Bombon, since it’s just her and her husband. She’s the store clerk, the cake baker, the balloon arch maker and the party display designer.

Though the storefront offers options for walkins, with its variety of pinatas from a maker in Mexico and sweet treats, Dulceria Bombon is defined by its custom services. Bueno said that she can make or order custom pinatas, cakes, tee shirts, candy tables and centerpieces. If a customer doesn’t see what they want, Bueno can make it happen, she said.

Dulceria Bombon creates candy tables that fits their customer’s taste or even hyper-specific themes like a Mickey Mouse-inspired birthday party or a unicorn display.

One of Bueno’s goals is to take the stress out of party planning for her customers, whether they are throwing a wedding, quinceanera, gender-reveal party, birthday or graduation party. She added that Dulceria Bombon takes care of every detail for a party table from setting up the decorations to hang-arranging gift bags.

“We want to make their party experience as easy as possible for them because the less they have to do the more they can enjoy their parties,” Bueno said.

Dulceria Bombon was created out of Bueno’s need for party supplies. She said she didn’t expect it to grow into a huge passion.

Her favorite part about her business is working onsite at parties and seeing how clients react to their completed party displays.

“Seeing their faces light up when they see all that we decorated is like, wow. We have the ability to make someone really, really happy,” Bueno said.

Looking to the future, Bueno wants to expand the Dulceria Bombon brand into other cities. Right now she’s eyeing Greeley, but there aren't any set plans for a new store yet.

“My goal is to open more locations in areas where the community doesn't have access to cakes, to pinatas, to candy, Mexican candy,” Bueno said. “Just make it more accessible to people so they're not struggling like we were when my son was born.”
