5 Longmont Public Safety employees on leave, but not for involvement in Capitol riots, per spokesperson

The department is not releasing any information about the employees on leave, including their positions, why and when they were placed on leave or if they were placed on leave at the same time.

Five Longmont Public Safety employees on administrative leave were not placed on leave for involvement last week in the riot at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., according to a department spokesperson.

The department is not releasing any information about the employees on leave, including their positions, why and when they were placed on leave or if they were placed on leave at the same time.

“As a standard practice, the City of Longmont does not comment on specifics of personnel issues,” the department said in an emailed statement. “However, Longmont Public Safety currently has 5 people out of 354 on administrative leave at this time.”

Law enforcement agencies across the country are investigating whether their personnel took part in the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol, which has been tied to the deaths of five people, including a Capitol Police officer. Police departments in New York City, Seattle and Philadelphia, and other agencies across the country are investigating whether their officers participated, according to NBC News.

In an email Wednesday, Robin Ericson, communications and marketing manager for Longmont Public Safety, said the local employees being placed on leave “has nothing to do with the riots at the Capitol in Washington, D.C.”

Correction: Five Longmont Public Safety employees are on leave. They were incorrectly identified as police department employees in the original posting of this story.
