During the August 22, 2017, City Council Meeting, Mayor Dennis Coombs proclaimed today, August 23, 2017, as "Center for People with Disabilities, 40th Anniversary Celebration Day."

Maria Stepanyan, Executive Director of The Center for People with Disabilities (CPWD), Diane Groff, Longmont Manager of CPWD, and colleagues and consumers of CPWD were at last night's meeting to accept the proclamation.

"Thank you very much for your recognition and celebration with us of our 40th anniversary," said Maria. "Thank you for sharing our support and continuing your support to us to make our community more accessible in design and in thinking, and also more inclusive and welcoming to all members of our community."

A 40th Anniversary Celebration will be held today at 615 N. Main Street from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend. There will be, as stated in city council communication, "photos from the over 40 years of providing services in the community, spin-to-win-wheel prizes, Americans with Disabilities free information, an assistive technology demonstration, and light refreshments."

According to CPWD website, the CPWD "mission is to provide resources, information, and advocacy to assist people with disabilities to achieve independent living."
