Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver members discover new worlds when they visit Gates Camp, the organization’s summer camp in the Rocky Mountains. Located at the Base of the Indian Peaks Wilderness west of Boulder, Gates Camp invites Denver’s youngest urban residents – some of whom have never visited the mountains – to challenge themselves, build new skills, and make memories to last a lifetime.
Throughout July, members from Boys & Girls Clubs across Metro Denver will travel to Gates Camp to spend the day fishing, rock climbing, hiking, and doing archery. Members will participate in activities that allow them to make new connections with peers, learn about the natural environment around them, and build on the skills learned at camp to become better leaders.
Heather Intres, Chief Impact Officer for Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver said, “Gates Camp provides the quintessential outdoor education experience for our Club members by engaging their hearts, minds and bodies in everything that is amazing about Colorado. From hiking and bird watching to canoeing and archery, our members learn how to be a friend to nature, safely navigate unexpected challenges, and work as a team. Our staff provides members with a healthy meal and programming that is based in social-emotional learning, ending every day with a large group reflection about their experiences and newly acquired skills.”
Gates Camp is one element of the holistic programming members of Boys & Girls Clubs of Meter Denver can affordably access all summer long. Kids and teens will also participate in multi-sport clinics, STEM field trips, horseback riding, cooking classes, sporting events, challenge courses, and a variety of healthy lifestyle activities.
